Course Description

Visual Arts Education is a spatial art that satisfies the human need to respond to life experiences through images, structures, and tactile works.  The arts represent society’s capacity to integrate human experience with individual creativity.  (PA Standards in Arts and Humanities)

At the Middle School, students will explore a variety of techniques and materials used to produce works of art, based on the Elements and Principles of Art and Design.  Student work should demonstrate sound design theory based on the project at hand.  Students will analyze their performance and evaluate the merits of selected historical art works and art styles.  Students will also be expected to build knowledge of the Academic Standards for the Arts and Humanities:
  • Application of problem solving skills.
  • Comprehension and application of the creative process.
  • Development and practice of creative thinking skills.
  • Development of verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
