Supports

At Phoenixville Area Middle School, we are committed to helping every student succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We look forward to partnering with you to help every student thrive.

Tier 2 Supports

As part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program, we offer additional Tier 2 supports for students who may benefit from extra guidance beyond the strategies available to all students. Students, parents/guardians, and staff members can request Tier 2 supports for a student who may benefit from additional assistance.

Check-in/Check-out (CICO)

The Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) program pairs students with a trusted adult mentor who meets with them at the beginning and end of each school day. Together, they review goals connected to our RISE expectations: Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Engagement. Throughout the day, students receive encouragement and feedback as they work toward these goals.

Small-Group Counseling

Small-Group counseling experiences are offered at PAMS throughout the school year.  Group counseling is a way for 7 and 8 grade students to work together with a counselor.  Group discussions are confidential.  All groups offer the opportunity to learn how to communicate effectively, manage stress, solve problems, and enhance self-concept.  Participation requires parent permission. If you are interested in participating in a small group please talk to your counselor.

Types of Groups Offered:

Concerned Persons Group
A group to help students concerned about a family member who abuses drugs or alcohol. The group will focus on feelings and coping skills. Students will see they are not alone.

Project “I” Group
A group to help students develop confidence and feel better about themselves. The group will be a safe place to discuss the pressures and concerns of school life.

Bereavement Support Group
A group to help students who have experienced the death of a loved one. This group helps students experience feelings in a supportive, caring environment, and teaches coping skills that will help them adjust to their changing world.

Changing Families Group
A group for students who have parents who are divorced, separated, or remarried. It offers students the chance to meet others who share similar experiences. The group provides opportunities for self-awareness, sharing with others, problem-solving, and better communication skills within their families.
