6th Grade

Hello 6th Graders,

Welcome to middle school! We are so excited for you to join us here at PAMS! This year is going to be filled with both learning and fun. You’ll meet new friends, take on challenges, and work toward your goals. Middle school can be a big transition for many students, but your teachers are here to support you every step of the way.

As you prepare for the new school year, we would like you to gather the supplies listed below. You will need a notebook and folder for each class. Backpacks will not be permitted to be carried from class to class.  You’ll use your locker to store and organize your belongings, but we’ll help you with this during the first week of school. Please read the supply list carefully and bring your supplies with you on the first day of school.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to seeing you soon! It’s going to be a great year!

Sincerely,
Your 6th Grade Teachers

7th Grade

Dear Students, Parents, and/or Guardians,

We hope that you had an amazing summer vacation, and that you are eager to start another great year! We are excited to continue to return to our pre-Covid policies here at PAMS! Last year, we saw the return of dances, full lunchrooms, and lockers. This year, we will see the return of backpack-free hallways and classrooms. This will enhance safety and create a better learning environment during the 2023-2024 school year. We realize that this may require some adjustments, and thus we have revised our class supply list to facilitate a smooth transition for our students.
Students will only need to carry three things from class to class: a laptop, a laptop charger, and a binder.
The binder should contain the following items:
Math – Folder, 1 subject notebook and a TI-30 Calculator
Language Arts – 3 subject notebook with and folder (built-in folder in notebook is preferred)
Social Studies – Folder
Science – Folder with 1 subject notebook.
Communications – Folder
Additional material: Highlighter pack, Pencils, and Post-it notes.
2 boxes of tissues for your homeroom teacher

We recommend a binder with a zipper, but students may choose to use two binders to reduce binder size (a morning binder and an afternoon binder).
In addition, we plan to offer the following supports for students to make this transition:
Additional time to get to class in the first two weeks of school.
Locker practice opportunities over the summer.
Locker time and practice during the first day of school.
Weekly binder maintenance during 8th period. Students will keep necessary folders and recycle papers that are no longer needed.

The Math Department strongly encourages each student to have their own scientific calculator as they return to PAMS.  It is important that students have their own calculator and bring it to class every day to become familiar with how it works. This piece of technology will be used throughout their time at PAMS and will be sufficient for all math classes and state assessments taken here at the middle school. If you are debating about what type of calculator to purchase, we recommend either the TI-30XIIS or the TI-30XS multi-view calculator. Both calculators will perform necessary functions and are similar in cost (each under $20 from many retail stores and websites).  Once your student has their calculator, please have your student write their name on the back of the calculator in permanent marker so we can return it if it is lost.
