Remote Learning Schedule

Good Morning PAMS Families,
Everyone continues to do an outstanding job in our new learning environment. As we move forward into the fourth marking period, we have created a new schedule. The new schedule will begin on Monday, March 30. The purpose of the schedule is to bring structure to the student day. Please know that we understand that due to shared technology, family schedules, and other new life reality conflicts, it is not expected that all students follow the schedule. Students can work in the evenings and on weekends as personal schedules permit.
The new schedule will provide more structured support for individual class levels. During class period times, a teacher may be live for 10-15 minutes at the beginning of the period to give an overview of the lesson and/or greet students. Please note that all instruction will be recorded and accessible 24/7. If a teacher is live, a Zoom conference will be located in the Announcement tab in Canvas. Office hour Zoom conferences will also be posted to the Announcement tab. All recorded instruction will be posted in Modules. Forms of instruction could be Teacher Recorded Video, Videos from Khan Academy, You Tube and other video formats, Voice-over PowerPoints and Prezis, etc. Office hours are for assistance and are optional for students. We encourage students who need support and can’t attend an office hour session to email their teacher.
Not every class "meets" every day. Rather than try and have all periods meet, we will focus on providing more time for fewer classes in a single day to promote deeper learning. Monday and Tuesday will be odd Days. Wednesday and Thursdays are even days. Period 8 is designated for students scheduled for Resource. Students will not report to Choir, Band, Orchestra, or their Period 8 home base. Choir, Band, and Orchestra announcements will be communicated through Canvas. We do encourage students to work in Exact Path as they would in Period 8. Students having trouble advancing in their Exact Path module can
find help at Exact Path Help

Assignments and learning checks will have due dates. The due dates are flexible but are being posted so that assignments are sequential and show up in the student’s calendar. Short learning checks will be posted and graded to be sure students are understanding the material. Fridays are designated as Assessment Question Days. On Fridays, each course has designated office hours for questions. Mixed Media questions should be asked during the Grade Level Mixed Media Office Hours. Grades for Marking Period 4 will sync to Skyward. Although due dates are flexible, an assignment will not be accepted 2 weeks past the due date. If a student has an extenuating circumstance needing an extension beyond two weeks, the student/parent should email the teacher.

In some modules, extended learning opportunities will be offered to students. These activities will be marked as optional. We encourage students who are doing well in core instruction to work on the extension activities. These activities are designed to extend learning and deepen understanding.

We hope that the schedule provides an organizational framework for students and that it lends more support to individual courses. Thank you for your continued support. We know there are many challenges and those challenges are different for every family. Please let me know if you have any questions about this change and the schedule moving forward.

Thank you,
Frank Garritano, Ed.D.
